Where to eat in Fremantle

From city centre dining to riverside spots, here are some top restaurant recommendations where you can enjoy great food and stunning views in Fremantle.

As our stay in Fremantle coincided with Christmas Day, we didn’t get to try as many restaurants as we would have liked, as many were closed.

Below is a list, starting with the places we personally tried, followed by three other highly recommended options.

Emily Taylor

Located in the Warders Hotel, where we stayed in Fremantle, Emily Taylor was our choice for Christmas dinner.

The menu offers an Asian-inspired tapas-style selection, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The only challenge was finding something mild enough for Maria Rita, but we managed to get at least one non spicy dish for her.

This was, without a doubt, the best meal of our trip. I highly recommend this restaurant, and if you visit in the summer, you can enjoy the bonus of dining al fresco.

Sail and Anchor

Housed in one of Fremantle’s most iconic buildings on the corner of one of Freo’s main streets, we ended up having lunch at the Sail and Anchor beer garden because it was close to our hotel, and we were absolutely starving.

We had the classic fish and chips and a fish burger, which was really good. The pub/restaurant also has an impressive selection of local beers, which went perfectly with the food.

Fremantle Markets

Fremantle Markets is one of Fremantle’s liveliest attractions, offering a wide range of local products, from handicrafts and souvenirs to fresh fruit and delicious street food.

Select ‘Food’ on the Fremantle Markets website to see all the food stalls available. The hardest part is choosing, as the selection is impressive and everything looks delicious.

We grabbed lunch from the market on the day we went to the Margaret River region and opted for the baos from What the Bao, which were absolutely amazing! We also picked up some pre-cut and packaged fruit boxes for the car trip.

The Fremantle Markets are open from Friday to Monday until 6pm. Check here for full opening hours, including public holidays.

Little Creatures

Little Creatures is one of the region’s most popular breweries. As well as an extensive list of beers, the restaurant menu is quite diverse, offering everything from seafood, including the famous Fremantle octopus, to pizzas.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to visit the brewery, which is a shame. Find out more here.

Kaili’s

Located in the Fremantle Marina, Kaili’s is known for its seafood dishes, especially its generous seafood platters. These sharing platters include prawns, oysters, octopus, and even lobster as an optional extra. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to try this restaurant.

Tonic + Ginger

Located in the Old Synanogue building, this popular Asian-inspired restaurant was recommended to us by one of the hotel staff.

It seemed quite pricey, and as we had already used up our budget for expensive meals (at Emily Taylor), we had to pass. Check out more details here.
